The Autism Project

Our Mission

The Johnston Police Department is honored to partner with the Autism Project. The Autism Project is a unique collaboration of parents, professionals and community members who provide quality support, training and programming that is accessible to all for children and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. They also support their families and those who work closest with them. It is the Johnston Police Department's mission to ensure that encounters with such individuals are recognized and that officers are cognizant of their response and techniques when providing service. As a result, we have adopted an Autism Contact Form which is attached below, that allows families, friends and caregivers to complete and forward to Lieutenant Loffler. Once the form is completed and the information is compiled it will be entered into our agency's data base. In doing so, officers responding to a call will be alerted prior to their arrival of the individual's disorder, so it is immediately recognized. The emergency contact provided on the form may also be contacted to help deescalate any issues that arise, which is often a useful resource to ensure a positive outcome. It will also be used if an individual with a disorder gets separated or lost. The information can be relayed to other agencies so they are cognizant of the disorder if and when the loved one is located. Below you will find a link to the Autism Project Website which provides several different resources and assistance as well as the Johnston Police Departments Autism Contact Form which can be emailed to dloffler@johnstonpd.com, mailed or dropped off at Police Headquarters. As always, the Johnston Police Department prides itself on Working Together ~ Making a Difference.
